What changed
- Kinsta says its platform previously used Google Cloud's compute-optimized C2 machines and that it is adopting the newer C3D machine type wherever it is available. [1]
- In its own testing, Kinsta reports response times 20% to 50% faster on C3D-based VMs than on C2. [1]
- Kinsta attributes the speed-up to AMD EPYC processors and an infrastructure processing unit (IPU) that Google developed with Intel, which offloads network and storage I/O from the CPU. [1] [2]
Where it applies
- Kinsta's first post (December 2023) listed six data centres: Singapore, Belgium, Netherlands, Iowa, South Carolina and Virginia. [1]
- An August 2024 post added Frankfurt and Sydney, and a November 2024 post added Taiwan, after Singapore and Mumbai in Asia, and listed Las Vegas among the other C3D locations. [2] [3]
- Kinsta says C3D-powered data centres are labelled 'Boosted' when you choose a location for a new site in MyKinsta, and that it migrated existing sites in those locations to the new machines. [2] [3]
Specs Kinsta quotes
- Kinsta states that C2 VMs support up to 60 virtual CPUs and 240 GB of RAM, while C3D supports up to 360 virtual CPUs and 2.88 TB of DDR5 memory. [1] [2]
What this page does not cover
We have not benchmarked Kinsta. The 20% to 50% figure is Kinsta's own test result. The list of Boosted data centres may have changed since these posts.
